Basically a stripped down G8 locomotive with an End Cab instead of a hood powered by an EMD 567C eight cylinder.

The 1720’s were a direct evolution of the 1700’s designed mainly for suburban passenger services and general freight duties. The weight increased to 62 tons, the speed went up to 100km/h and the prime mover was replaced with an EMD 645E eight cylinder and fitted with a quick start switch for faster acceleration. Many of the 1720’s are still in service.

Both of the classes went through a refit in the 90’s for Driver Only Operation, recieving new larger windscreens and an air conditioning pod. (Because it’s bloody hot here.)

Features:
The original end cab design of both the 1700 and 1720.
The rebuilt Driver Only Operation version of both the 1700 and 1720.
Model Citizens AAR couplers. (Many thanks!)
Custom dirt and rust.
Custom sound set and horn. (Many thanks to Paul Shepherd on Youtube for graciously allowing me hack up his wonderful videos and harvest sounds from them.)
Static versions.
Reversed versions.
Custom numbers and headcodes set using the ‘Train Name’ option. 1700’s originally bore 1700 to 1711. 1720’s wore numbers between 1720-1775. The ‘D’ indicates the Driver Only Operation rebuild. You can use any 4 digits you’d like.

Liveries:
1700 ‘Diesel Blue’ as delivered from 1963 in End Cab form.
