This locomotive was commissioned by RadarTheRat, and I think he has very good taste.<\/p>\n

The D49 was designed by Gresley to pull intermediate express trains after the grouping act of 1923. The engine was designed as a 4-4-0, in an economic move over a 4-4-2 Atlantic design.<\/p>\n

Finally finished in 1927, the first \u2018Shire\u2019 rolled off the production line.<\/p>\n
